Happy Mother's Day, dear ladies of the forum!
How greatly do I now regret having ceased "celebrating" dear lady friends and family I knew, upon my becoming a JW. They had all been so good and kind to me . . .
good morning, all.. it is good to be here.. thanks to all for your contributions.. love and blessings.

Happy Trails, Sylvia and other friends:
Off to a day of fun and games. Usually, it's secular work and chores at home -- nonstop.
This will be the ninth year in a row that dear friends, including former students, remember an aging young man's "special day." For years I was too afraid to say I'm a Gemini!
Fettuccine Alfredo au Poulet, main course, and chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream (per my request) for dessert. thereby my host dishing out my just deserts.
Yes, dear Snowbird, it's all right to indulge in dessert! As a matter of fact, I recently treated myself to two huge scoops of ice cream at our local creamery @ $3.53. The waitress and I were discussing ten cent scoops from childhood!
Love to all!

in my job, i work with words and wrangle them into shape, well, in a manner of speaking.
one word might be mistaken for another, a word with either a similar or identical sound.
Spanish metal was no match for English mettle.

"Correct me if i'm wrong but stopper is an anglicism. As such, it more or less means whatever to stop means in English." [emendations mine]
ex:
stopper une voiture : to stop a car
stopper à un carrefour : to stop at a crossroads
stopper un dangereux criminel : to stop a dangerous criminal

You're not incorrect, Sylvia; however, I was nonplussed when reading my French copy of said magazine and the caption for the ant was "Stop!" The article had something to do with man's efforts to change the oncoming rush of the end of the system of things, or some such.
Must've been pre-'75.
Thanks!

I remember an older Awake! (a magazine, anyway) that had an illustration of an ant holding up his hand to an oncoming locomotive, shouting "STOP!"
It was a French publication.

Hey, Sylvia!
Glad you saw that. I guess you are permitted to use big words on this thread as well!

It's easy to see which are "words" and those not. I believe the term acronym may include all of the above. As with everything else, opinions differ!
Have a blessed day!

Although in its early, inchoate stage, today's bout with catarrh leaves me with rheumy eyes and an ill humor. It's probably puerile behavior on my part, but I'm going to get into a tub of very hot water and play with my rubber ducky.
It'll make me feel better . . .
i saw the recent video that the borg put out about the trial in russia and how pleased the russian brothers were that a member of the gibbering booty, brother sanders, came to support them for six days.
well, there was a one-day delay in the trial which enabled the russian witnesses to have the memorial in their kingdom halls.
well, brother sanders was very quick to point out that it was very evident that jehovah intervened to enable the brothers to celebrate the memorial.
"God reduced to comforting but not intervening so that comfort over tragedy is not required in the first place. Ah,I would love God's role - provider of invisible comfort but not practical intervention, as impotent as his supplicants." -- steve2
Greetings, Sour Grapes and steve2:
The above quotation regarding God's role in the so-called answering of prayer brought this quotation to mind, in a tangential manner:
"So true it is, and so terrible, too, that up to a certain point the thought or sight of misery enlists our best affections; but, in certain special cases, beyond that point it does not. They err who would assert that invariably this is owing to the inherent selfishness of the human heart. It rather proceeds from a certain hopelessness of remedying excessive and organic ill. To a sensitive being, pity is not seldom pain. And when at last it is perceived that such pity cannot lead to effectual succor, common sense bids the soul be rid of it." Bartleby, Herman Melville.

Thanks, Syl and HB!
Such is the grist for a writing class I conduct.
Gratefully.

reticent: not prone to reveal oneself readily
My Italian relatives, talkative in the extreme, could never be described as reticent. They'll give their life's story, with all the sordid details, to a total, bewildered stranger.
